It's been a while since the event, but I thought I would collate some of the articles written about Mike Anthony in his bid to complete the 2019 Kona Ironman World Championships race.
The event was held on 12th October 2019in in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and as a reminder for mere mortals, comprises a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km (marathon) run.
To get to this point, Mike had finished first in his age group at IM UK, in Bolton, completing the race with around 20 minutes to spare after the other two in his age group failed to make it out of transition 2.
In the run up to the race, the Knutsford Guardian ran some pieces on Mike as he prepared for the event. You can find them below.
Be sure to check out our Instagram page (scroll to the bottom of any of the main pages for a link) where you can find a finish line video from the official race feed. Bear in mind at this point, that Mike was suffering excruciating foot pains, had been for the full marathon, and wouldn't be back to normal training until just before christmas, which is why he can be seen needing the help of stewards after the finish line.
